ABOUT US

It is with great pride that we offer our services to you and your family. Our original child care facility had a capacity for only 50 children. Within two years, Great Bridge Child Care expanded to be able to support 124 children serving the Great Bridge Primary school district. Recognizing the growth of the Great Bridge area, in 1985 Karen Colston opened a second location on Fentress Road serving the Butts Road Primary school district, supporting another 137 children. We have remained a large and successful early childhood and after-school program for many years now, and are eager to connect with your family.

Philosophy

Great Bridge Child Care is dedicated to providing quality education and care for the growth and development of children. The staff strives to meet the needs of your children by providing for individual differences through experiences that build foundations for the future academic skills and social relationships.

Quality

We have been named to the Virginian-Pilot's "Best of Hampton Roads" list for more than 20 consecutive years—every year since 1996! We are a fully licensed facility, working with local agencies to make sure that our centers meet or exceed the regulatory standards for daycare centers in Virginia. We have security for our centers protecting all classrooms to ensure children’s safety and security. At both Great Bridge Child Care centers, access to the building is private and secure. Your child will enjoy a nourishing lunch and snacks each day, with a healthy outside environment and wonderful academic/enrichment programs.

Staff

  • All staff is CPR/First Aid Certified.

  • We always have at least one staff member MAT trained.

  • All employees are nurturing, with a love of children!

  • Our staff are highly knowledgeable, undergoing training each year to keep up with new and exciting approaches to education.

Open-Door Policy

Families are invited to drop in, unannounced, at any time!

Education

Our educational program uses a “hands on” approach to learning. Activity Centers feature games that motivate children to develop skills in language arts, music and movement, creative activities, problem solving, math and science. Our curriculum is the McMillan Early Education program that has been enhanced over the years.

Socialization

Our day care program provides time for informal play and socialization.  Interest areas include indoor and outdoor activities, games, arts, crafts, cooking experiences and dramatic play.

 

Enrichments

In addition to our regular educational activities, we bring in resource professionals for music, computers and soccer!

Hours

To accommodate working parents, Great Bridge Child Care hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 pm at both of our locations. Both locations offer preschool programs in the morning and after-school activities in the afternoon.
